Property In South Africa
The property market in South Africa has been growing steadily as the demand for property is increasing year by year. The metropolitan areas have seen the biggest growth as more and more people are seeking employment in the cities and major industrial centers of the country.
With South Africa divided up into nine main provinces the scope for development has increased as each province now boasts its own capitol and administrative center.
The nine provinces are the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Northern Cape, Free State and Kwazulu-Natal.
The most densely populated area is Gauteng with the two major cities in the country, Pretoria and Johannesburg a mere 50 kilometers apart.
The property market has changed substantially over the past few years with the emergence of estates, golf estates and security complexes being the bulk of new development. Many previously suburban areas have become business centers when many businesses decentralized out of the city centers. These moves have created a substantial increase in the value of properties located in these areas as old houses are taken down to make room for modern office blocks.
